DCI Arrests Three Suspects Linked to Violent Criminal Gun, Recover AK-47 Gun

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)  has recovered an AK-47 gun and apprehended three suspects linked to a violent criminal gang in Uasin Gishu County.

In a statement on Sunday, January 11, the detectives said that the weapon was recovered in a thicket within a homestead and was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.

The three suspects are believed to be part of a notorious gang that has been terrorising residents of the area through armed robberies and other violent crimes in the county.

In one incident, the trio is accused of holding a family captive, making away with their vehicle and coercing them into sending money via mobile phone transfers.

Further probe by the detective also revealed that the three were linked to a robbery with violence, which led to the murder of a pharmacist at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, on 7 January 2026.

"Their arrest follows a well-coordinated joint operation by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), supported by the Operations Unit at DCI Headquarters and their Uasin Gishu-based counterparts," DCI stated.

Detectives have assured that they will continue with investigationsto apprehend other individuals linked to the gang.

"The three suspects are currently being processed for arraignment in court as investigations continue. Detectives are also intensifying efforts to arrest other members of the gang who are still at large," DCI stated.

The development follows the arrest of six suspects in Meru two months ago inconnection with a spate of robberies in the area, during which detectives also recovered several items, among them firearms.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 18, the detectives said that the six were apprehended in their hideout during an intelligence-led operation conducted by a joint team of detectives from Mutuati and Igembe North Sub-Counties.

According to the detectives, upon the arrest of the six suspects, they recovered several items, including two Falcon pistols and three live ammunition.
