Government Spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, has distanced himself from an opinion poll suggesting that he is planning to vie for the Kiambu Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Mwaura broke his silence following the circulation of an opinion poll bearing his name, which alleged that he was among thecontenders for the Kiambu senatorial race.
The poll, labelled as 'Swiss Poll International,' placed Mwaura among several politicians and was widely shared on social media platforms, drawing the attention of online users.
"If the senatorial election for Kiambu County were held today, which candidate would you be most likely to vote for?" the opinion poll read in part.
According to the opinion poll, George Maara is shown leading with 44 per cent, followed by current Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, Isaac Mwaura, and Kogi Investor.
Besides the flagged survey report, a Facebook group titled 'Hon. Isaac Mwaura for Kiambu County Senator 2027', also emerged, further fueling speculation about his political intentions.
In response, the government spokesperson flagged the opinion poll and Facebook page as fake, warning members of the public to be cautious about such misleading information.
"This page is a fraud. Be very careful. Someone is overworking," Mwaura wrote on his X account amid public concerns over the credibility of the survey report.
Mwaura was appointed as the government spokesperson in October 2023.Prior, he served in the National Assembly and the Senate, where he was nominated to represent people with disabilities.
He took over his current position from Cyrus Oguna, who had served as the government spokesperson from May 2019 before resigning in October 2022 after landing a job in the Siaya County Government.
Similarly, Mwaura had also been initially nominated as a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) by President William Ruto, but these positions were later declared unconstitutional by the High Court.
Mwaura's clarification has since sparked fresh debate about increased misinformation, particularly regarding the country's politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Another recent sensational fake claim emerged, purportingthat the Registrar of Political Parties had deregistered Kalonzo's Wiper Patriotic Front. The ORPP has since dismissed the claims.
