Kalonzo Claims Part of Former President Kibaki's Legacy Amid Political Attacks From President Ruto

Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed the legacy of the late former President Mwai Kibaki, whom he served as the Vice President from 2008 to 2013.

Kalonzomade this statement in an interview onNTV,where he emphasised that President Kibaki’s legacy is part of his own, preferring to use the word ‘we’ while highlighting the achievements of the Kibaki administration.

“Kenyans will remember I was Vice President to Kibaki; that is when ‘we’ built the Thika Highway,” Kalonzo said.

The former Vice President went further to name several of Kibaki’s projects without failing to also take credit.

“The work 'we' did in South Sudan, we realised under the CPA, which was signed here in Nairobi under President Kibaki again, which gave birth to the Republic of South Sudan,” Kalonzo insisted.

Kalonzo also defended his legacy as a Member of Parliament of Kitui North from 1985 to 2013, claiming that he developed the area intensively.

“Ask yourself, why would these people keep electing one man called Kalonzo Musyoka from 1985?” Kalonzo said.

During the interview, Kalonzo once again defended himself fromPresident William Ruto’s attacks for not constructing the road linking to his homein Tseikuru.

This time he claimed that leaders eat last, defending why, as Vice President, he launched the construction of the road to his home county in the last years of his tenure.

He blamed President William Ruto,accusing him of channelling all the development to his home area.

Kalonzo insisted that he has a clean track record with no graft allegations, unlike his competitors.

The Wiper leader further criticised President William Ruto’s plan to take the country to First World status, claiming the Singapore plan is unrealistic with the rate of unemployment in the country.
