Kalonzo Dismisses Alleged Agreement to Cede Nairobi Elective Seats to Gachagua Party

Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed claims by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua that the two had struck a deal for Wiper to withdraw its candidates from all major Nairobi seats in favour of Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony in Machakos County,Kalonzo denied any such agreement and instead accused the government of spreading falsehoodsto create divisions within the United Opposition.

"Stop this propaganda that Wiper has left all the seats in Nairobi for DCP. They have to try everything to create tensions between us," Kalonzo stated.Kalonzo reiterated that the opposition remains intact and committed to moving together towards their agenda to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.

"We are calling our colleagues to sit together. There's nothing seriously wrong, and we will take a collective stand," Kalonzo noted.

Gachagua alleged that the agreement would have given his party control of all the Nairobi top seats, including gubernatorial and senatorial seats in 2027.

DCP would also have16 out of 17 parliamentary seats and over 90% of MCA positions in the capital.

"We have an arrangement with the Wiper party leader. Out of 17 constituencies, DCP will take 16. Out of 85 wards, between DCP and Wiper, we will have 75," Gachagua earlier stated.

Gachagua's move was seen by others within the opposition as behind-the-scenes lobbying that sources say is ongoing within the coalition, with the former DP reportedly seeking important Nairobi positions in exchange for support for Kalonzo's 2027 presidential bid.

The united opposition has been grappling with back-and-forth accusations, where other leaders were accused of holding meetings and forming political alliances without the knowledge of the entire coalition.

Despite these accusations, the united opposition had always maintained that the coalition is intact and would file a single candidate to face President Ruto in 2027.

PresidentRuto had previously dared the opposition to tell Kenyans their planinstead of just trying to remove him from office. The United Opposition maintained that their only and most important plan is to help Kenyans send the president home in 2027.
