A dramatic confrontation unfolded in Kisii town when a sitting Member of Parliament allegedly stormed into a hotel and physically attacked a civilian believed to be involved with a woman linked to him.
The altercation, which occurred on the morning of Thursday, November 27th, is reported to be fueled by an alleged love triangle that left patrons stunned as the legislator reportedly confronted the man during breakfast.
CCTV footage showed the legislator entering before marching directly to the civilian who was seated at a table inside the hotel.
In the footage of the confrontation, the legislator is captured speaking animatedly and gesturing at the man before the encounter escalated into physical violence that lasted several minutes.
Hotel staff and curious citizens enjoying breakfast were seen attempting to separate the two without success.
In the footage, the lawmaker is seen attempting to stomp on the civilian’s torso, setting off a chaotic scuffle.
The video also captured the MP delivering a slap to another individual who stepped in to de-escalate the situation.
According to the civilian victim, the lawmaker assaulted him, questioning why he interfered in his private affairs.
In a press briefing on November 30, the victim addressed the media and claimed to have suffered injuries as a result of the assault.
The victim narrated the ordeal, stating that the legislator walked in loudly demanding respect, while accusing the civilian of having an affair with the MP’s girlfriend.
Despite the civilian filing an assault complaint at Kisii Central Police Station on the same day, November 27, no arrest has been made, leaving the victim’s legal team questioning the delay.
“We have had a P3 form filled, every procedure has been done, but the police are yet to arrest the culprit who assaulted our client in Kisii, with unknown people in Java, Kisii town,” stated the victim’s lawyer, Bernard Atancha.
Furthermore, the lawyers claim their client is in danger, saying the lawmaker involved in the altercation may be looking to cause the civilian further harm.
This assault on a civilian comes months aftertwo members of parliament were embroiled in a scuffleon parliament grounds.
