KMTC Students to Get Financial Support From Govt Through HELB - DP Kithure Kindiki

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has promised that Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) students will receive financial support from the government via the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

He made this announcement during the 2025 KMTC graduation ceremony held at Kasarani Stadium on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

“I’ve been convinced that we must support KMTC students through HELB,” Kindiki stated.

KMTCstudents previously relied on schemes like the Afya Elimu Fund and the KMTC Students’ Financing Scheme.

A key difference is that the existing KMTC loans primarily cover tuition fees, which are sent directly to the institution.

This stands in starkcontrast to university students, who receive a significant non-repayable scholarship component (ranging from 30% to 70% based on need) and a separate upkeep loan for living expenses disbursed to their bank accounts.

The DP committed to taking action to fix this inequity, which affects needy families.

“I will go and collect the stakeholders, the Minister for Treasury, the Minister of health Minister of Education next week. I’ll meet with them so that we give you a response,” Kindiki assured.

The DP also mentioned that the government of Kenya will ensure all students get jobs in their professions.
