Mama Rachel Hospital Nearly Complete, Says Governor Sakaja

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has revealed that the Mama Rachel Hospital, built in honour of First Lady Rachel Ruto, is 90 per cent complete.

Governor Sakaja last year renamed Mutuini Hospital to Mama Rachel Hospital as part of the changes to transform it into a Level 5 specialist facility with advanced maternal, neonatal, surgical, and diagnostic services, featuring theatres, an ICU, a renal unit, and milk banks.

According to the governor's end-of-year message, which was published in the county newsletter on Monday, December 22, residents will have better access to healthcare and more health services.

“The much-anticipated Mama Rachel Ruto Hospital is now over 90 per cent complete, promising expanded services and improved access for residents,” the governor revealed in his note.

Sakaja renamed the hospitalto recognise the First Lady's work, particularly her efforts through initiatives like "Mama Doing Good" that support women's health and empowerment.

This facility is a new, three-storey, 400-bed hospital in Mutuini, Nairobi County.

The hospital is located in Mutuini, Dagoretti South, in Nairobi County, near the Southern Bypass.

Upon completion, the hospital will have theatres, maternity and newborn units, ICU and HDU wards, a renal unit, and a live surgery suite.

The facility will have modern radiology (CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound) and a large laboratory.

The hospital will also have two human milk banks to support neonatal care.

Earlier in 2025,President William Ruto pledgedKsh230 million to restart the work on the hospital that had then stalled to upgrade it to a Level 5 facility.

The Nairobi County Assembly in the 2024/2025 budget had allocated KSh 238 million for the expansion and upgrade of the facility to Level 5 status.
