Met Department Warns of 5-Day Heat Wave Across Most Counties

Dry and hot conditions will continue to hit hard in different parts of the country in the next five days, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its weekly forecast, covering Tuesday, January 13 until Saturday, January 17, the department said that even though a few areas in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the south-eastern lowlands might experience occasional rainfall, most of the country will remain sunny.
Additionally, counties including Turkana, Marsabit, Samburu and Mombasa are among areas forecast to experience strong winds of up to 25 knots during the period.
Day-long sunny conditions are expected to prevail in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi counties on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as Friday and Saturday morning.
A few areas may receive showers on Friday and Saturday afternoons, while nights are expected to stay partly cloudy throughout the week.
It is, however, expected that the maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 29 °C, with a minimum of 07°C.
The weatherman said light showers are likely in parts of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland areas of Tana River County, on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday mornings, with generally hot and sunny conditions expected to prevail at other times.
According to the weather forecast, the maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 32°C, while the minimum will be 14°C.
Sunny and dry conditions will prevail in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as Tana River County, throughout the day, according to the forecast.
These counties are expected to record maximum temperatures of 32°C and minimum temperatures of 23°C.
Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties will experience sunny intervals the whole of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as Friday and Saturday morning. Showers are likely to occur on Friday and Saturday afternoons, according to the forecast.
During this period,the maximum temperatures in these counties are expected to reach 31°C, while the minimum will be 07°C.
Residents of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties can expect sunny and dry conditions throughout the week. The maximum temperatures are expected to be 38°C, while the minimums will reach 16°C.
According to the weather forecast, Turkana and Samburu counties can expect mostly sunny conditions and some partly cloudy conditions. The forecast predicts maximum temperatures of 38°C and minimum temperatures of 17°C in these counties.
