A tragic double murder in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana, has claimed the life of Kenyan immigrant and Uber driver Frederick Kiprono.
The 43-year-old father from Moiben in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya, was gunned down Wednesday evening while on an active Uber ride along Clyde Fant Parkway. His 18-year-old passenger, Tatum Ashley of Shreveport, was also killed. A third person was wounded and remains hospitalized.
Shreveport Police say two teenagers are now in custody: 17-year-old Tarvell Loston, charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, and a second juvenile whose identity is being withheld. Authorities believe the attack was a targeted robbery that escalated into gunfire.
Kiprono had moved to the United States to build a better life for his family back home, working long hours behind the wheel. Friends describe him as hardworking, soft-spoken, and deeply devoted to his children.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the Kenyan diaspora. Fundraising efforts are underway to repatriate his body to Kenya for burial.
Shreveport police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
